2019 SA GBTA Golf Tournament
This year we are partnering with Soldiers’ Angels
Established in 2003 by the mother of a son who was deployed to Iraq at the start of the War on Terror. September 11th was a catalyst that inspired Americans to support the military.
Soldiers’ Angels was created as an opportunity for them to provide that support with care packages, hand-sewn blankets, letters, cards, and other items from ‘home’. Within the last 16 years, they have grown to over 12 Programs with over 100,000 volunteers nationwide. Most of the programs and services offered by Soldiers’ Angels are performed by volunteers who work tirelessly supporting our nation’s veterans, wounded warriors, deployed service members, and their families.
As combat operations continue to decline, Soldiers’ Angels is still providing support but have begun to shift excess resources to support a growing veteran population, including veterans of all generations. As one of the few nonprofits with a seat on the Veteran Affairs National Advisory Council and approved to work within the VA Medical Centers, Soldier’s Angels is uniquely positioned to serve our veterans. In 2013, Soldiers’ Angels began its Veteran Support Program with a concentration on hunger relief because this is the service that we found most needed. In the past six years, Soldiers’ Angels has served over 412,000 veterans in need of essential services such as food, hygiene products, and comfort items.
Here are just two examples of the impact that we are making on the lives of our brave men and women in uniform and those who have fought so gallantly for our freedom in the past.
From a deployed service member who received care packages:
“Good Evening. I just want to thank you all for what you do. I have received a few care packages from you guys and man have they been extremely helpful. I am currently deployed in a remote island doing humanitarian missions, and when I get the package with deodorant, shampoo, body wash, snacks, toothpaste, socks, etc….. you would be surprised as how much that means to me (us). See people may think, oh it’s just some small items that we put in a box, or it’s something I can maybe buy myself in the store. Well for a lot of us, it’s not that easy to get these items. These packages are blessing to me and my troops here (I share of course). Just wanted to give thanks to this organization and the people who take time away from their families to put these packages together. God Bless you all – Mike”
From a veteran who received food at our Mobile Food Distribution:
“After being homeless for 3 years and not knowing what I am going to eat. Not knowing what type of resources were available to me as a veteran. I heard about this program called Soldiers' Angels. At first I didn't want to deal with it because I didn't want to be talked down to. Or made to feel worse then I already felt. Then I took a chance and it was life changing. The staff didn't make me feel me bad at all. I felt they cared. I thank God for Soldiers' Angels you all are truly heaven sent!”
